Theo Epstein has a year left on his contract with the Boston Red Soxs and the fans in Boston are looking for blood and Terry Francona getting released is not enough for the Red Soxs so they wanted to run Theo Epstein out of town as well. Now it looks like they are going to get their way as it is looking like Epstein is heading to the south side of Chicago to rebuild the Cubs who have not won a World Series since 1908 and have not been in a World Series game since 1945 which is 67 years ago.
The Red Soxs fan maybe ruining the day that they forced Theo Epstein as he built their team into a world series champion within two years of been hired as the GM of Red Soxs in 2004 breaking the curse of trading the Babe as to that point their last world series title was 1918. He brought in a no name player David Ortiz who was a little known player who was in the Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins systems between 1992 and 2002. He was turned into a monster after arrive in Boston in 2003 where he hit 31 homers and 101 RBIs and then a year later he was an AL all-star with 41 homers and 139 RBIs and had a playoff performance of 409 with 5 homers and 29 RBIs to lead the Soxs to the World Series tittle. He also brought in Kevin Millar who was a club house guy who kept the team together and he had started as a replacement player in '94 and then a little known player with the Marlins until he joined the Red Soxs. He also brought in an Ace like Curt Schilling was brought into cementing the rotation and who can forget the bloody soxs during the 2004 AL Championship series against the Yankees.
So now he is heading to the Cubs who have bad contracts like Alfonso Soriano (18 mil), Carlos Zambrano (18 mil), and Ryan Dempster (14 mil) so these three players are making 50 mil next season and these three are bad role models to the rest of the team and if he could figure out a way to get them off the team by eating the contracts or something it would put the team in a better position to be contenders.
The Cubs really need to build from the ground up as the going out and paying big bucks for free agents just inflates the pay roll and get no results so they need to find the right players in the draft and try to find the low price gems like he did in Boston but it will a lot harder now than it was then because teams are more aware of those kind of get on base guys who can kill opposing pitchers innings by taken pitches and fouling of a number of close pitches. This means it might take Theo Epstein all five years of his contract to get the bad seeds out and the bright future in because it was not all about just being able to sign the top free agents because they were able to pay the money but he went out and got the right players no matter what the cost until last season just blow up in everybody's face.
Lets see if this can finally turn the south side into winners
