The NBA players need to check their heads because they nothing like the NFL as the NFL TV contracts are worse 3.8 billion and their cap equals each teams shares of the TV revenue and the players signing bonuses is paid by the attendance at the games. While the NBA have total revenues of 4.2 billion and the licences of NFL products revenue is 2.7 billion is much bigger than the 1.75 billion for the NBA. The NBA's biggest problem is ticket sales as 12 teams have less than 83.7 % capacity which is a sixth of the seats ans this 40% of the teams and 4 teams are under 80% capacity while 6 teams have less than 15,000 fans a game and this is 20% of the teams. Also the thing is that most attendance numbers are rigged anyways and the players only need to look into the stands to see all the empty seats while they were playing that there is a huge problem in the NBA and I know hockey is a way weaker brand but they still have more fans at their games than the NBA does.
So if the owners are offering 50/50 split the players instead of thinking it is a slap in the face should be thanking the owners because the teams that make the most money like the Celtics, the Knicks, the Mavericks, and the Lakers are all way over the salary cap and at least the bottom third of the league is hurting and they have more unstable franchises than the NHL. Keep in mind that the Miami Heat had the upper level of their arena covered up and they had 2,000 more seats sold in the season after the big three got together and the season before them it much lower than the 17 thousand they had.
Most NBA teams have players sitting on their bench making more than 10 million who are no longer useful and if the owners are still willing to give guaranteed contracts still and the players need to keep in mind that a lot of NBA owners will lose a lot less money than if they actually played ball under the old CBA while the others will gain more profit in the long run.
Also the richer owners could help out the poorer owners by having revenue sharing but the players will also have to take a huge pay cut to make the NBA stay strong for decades to come.
It might take the whole season to get a deal done that makes the league stronger for years to come
