Gleeworld is in mourning

World according to Glee is stunned and dismayed with the news of one of the original member of the TV show Glee Cory Monteith who played Finn Hudson and was found passed away in his hotel room in Vancouver. He looked to have gotten back to his hotel room very early Saturday morning after a night of partying with friends and fell asleep and was ready to check later that morning to go back to L.A. to see Glee Co-star and real life girlfriend Lea Michele but instead he never woke up. Cory Monteith looks like another young person that grew up wanting the popularity, fame, and fortune and thought that would bring happiness and joy and instead it does not. So to take the pain away of having to watch everything they do and watch out for the Paparazzi, who are looking to destroy the image of celebrities, dive into alcohol and drugs to numb their brain and try to convince themselves they are happy with their addiction. It is a sad image of the world and people can not handle it and more importantly be able to take their money and step away from the spotlight and move into their next chapter of family life like Hilary Duff or the Simpson sisters (Ashley and Jessica) have done so successfully. In the end it is not that easy to take that step back just ask Lindsey Lohan, Brittney Spears, and Amanda Bynes who are unable to get out of their own way and have lifetime memberships to rehab clinics and can not stay out of trouble. Glee at least will do a great job honoring Cory Monteith most likely the season premiere in late September or early October and it will a very classy show just like when they did a very quick tribute to Whitney Houston a couple of seasons back. It maybe close to the most viewers a Glee episode has ever had as viewers will want to see how they Finn off the show. It is a sad day in the Gleeworld Tom Mehegan

Eric Lindros will have to sleep in the bed him and his family made

Eric Lindros on his production of 865 points in only 760 games and 1.1 points a game (15TH best of non-active players) should be in the Hockey Hall of Famebut his refusal to go to Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL when they drafted him and Ex- NHLer Phil Esposito who was apart owner of the greyhounds and he ended up being traded to the Oshawa Generals. Of course that was not the only refusal he and is family made as they decided not report to the Quebec Nordiques when he was drafted No. 1 overall in the 1991 NHL entry draft and work out for the Nordiques as they got Peter Forsberg and Mark Ricci who were a couple of the center pieces to the Avalanche (former Nordiques) winning the Stanly Cup in their first season in Colorado. In the end karma in the form of Darius Kasparaitis got him as he caught Eric in '98 and sidelined for 18 games with a concussion and would become the reason that he only played 760 games or just over 9 NHL seasons even though he played from 1992-93 season to the 2006-07 season which totals 13 seasons in the NHL (including the '04-'05 lockout and the 2000-01 contract dispute cost him two seasons). He is not the only Lindros having concussions end their career early as younger brother Brett had his NHL career ended very quicly by concussion as he played only parts of two seasons with the Islanders after being drafted in '94 but by the end of the '95-'96 season he had retired and even little sis Robin Lindros even had her hockey career ended by concussions. Eric was a very good player who ended up sharing the heart trophy in the strike shortened season in '94-'95 and a first-team all-star in '94-'95 and a second team all-star in '95-\96 to playing in 7 all-star games in his short career. If he had not bullied hockey to get his way (his parents did it too) then he would be a hall of famer like Cam Nelly (694 points in 726 games) Tom Mehegan

Dan O'Toole and Jay Onrit head to Fox Sports 1 to make big splash on the brand-new network

Dan O'Toole and Jay Onrit are going to be hugely missed at the three letter (TSN) in Canada as they were strong holds for 11 PM pacific timeslot on Sprtscentre to the extreme of them not being on a show sent racial slurs through the twitter vers one night so they will be hard to replace to the point I do not know if it is possible right away, The thing is that one of the big networks down south called (FOX) and said we are starting up our own sports network (FOX Sport 1) and Dan and Jay looked at the contract offer and jumped at the offer and will be starting August 17 when the Network starts up Fox Sports live, So they will bring their corky humor to Fox Sports Live which will be a family size three-hour version with them doing the highlights while guys like former tennis pro Andy Roddick will have a discussion at different points of that three-hour show sharing their views on the sports topics of the day. This maybe hard to pull off a three-hour program and try to keep an audience for all three-hours but Dan and Jay should be able to help start-up the new network and help keep an audience for their Pardon the interruption and sports center all rolled into a very big bowl of humor and comedy. So Fox Sports 1 its self will have a hard time taken viewers away from the four letter (ESPN) down south but with Nascar, Major League Baseball (including playoffs), NCAA football (including bowl games), and even soccer with Gus Johnson they will not going in naked as they have programming and in September they will have the NFL will be back and some how, some way it will dominate their Sunday programming. So they will have audience to build from but will have to be patient as that Bean stock that giant (ESPN) is at the top of is huge and it will take Jack (FOX sports 1) to get an indent into that bean stock. So I hope that Dan and Jay do well on down south as they did up north Tom Mehegan

The Genius Brain Murray is at it again

Ottawa Senators were saddened by their divorce with Daniel Alfredsson but Brain Murray did not get down on himself and picked a new arm candy in Bobby Ryan and yes I am talking about that Bobby Ryan that was the odd man out in Anaheim with Cory Perry with a cap hit of 8.625 mil a season and Ryan Getzlaf with a cap hit of 8.25. So with two seasons left on a deal worth 5.1 million and a nice pay increase coming to him the Ducks would not be able to handle three contracts probably worth over 8 million of a cap hit. That is where the GM genius steps in and Brain Murray pulled the rug out from everyone as they were blinded by the Daniel Alfredsson decision and he came in and packaged Jakob Silfverberg, a first round pick in 2014 and young winger Stefan Noesen for a 30-goal in Bobby Ryan and it looks like Murray has not lost a step. So Jason Spezza (if he stays healthy) will have a nice left winger in Bobby Ryan and with Ryan's 4 straight 30 plus goal seasons before the 48-game season and also at least 50 to 70 points a season during those 4 seasons and both should feed off each others talent level and take each other to another level. With a great goalie in Craig Anderson (Anderson for Bishop the Avs must be kicking themselves) the Sens could battle those annoying Bruins for the top of their division while keeping those feet ready to kick at those up and coming Leafs, Canadiens, and those brand new Red Wings and their new arm candy Daniel Alfredsson. Brian Murray keeps a step ahead of everyone else Tom Mehegan

Leafs Marry Clarkson while Sens dumped by Alfredsson what a weird day

The Maple Leafs went into the free agent waters and caught the biggest fish of all in David Clarkson who comes from the New Jersey Devils and lets hope he is not the next Scott Gomez who was poop after leaving New Jersey. Clarkson has signed for 7 years and that is a long-term contract for 37.75 million which is less of a cap hit that the biggest fish usually gets. Clarkson goes against everything the Leafs have been able to do in the past as he is local guy like Steve Stamkos or John Taveres who decided to re up with their teams and Rick Nash while he wanted to be traded but not his hometown. Then a couple of free agent seasons ago they tried to catch the big fish local boy Brad Richards and David Nonis has done more in less than a year has done things that Brain Burke could not do like making the playoffs, bringing in a goalie at a good price, and bring in a prized free agent. He has also brought back Tyler Bozak and at 5 years and 21 mil it is a lot less than if Mikhail Grabovski so that is why he was bought out and now it will be interesting if Bozak or Clarkson will be in-between Kessel and Lupul. On the other hand the happy go lucky Ottawa Senators who have made every right move with the help of GM Brian Murray who is the greatest GM in the NHL with the resources he has while the likes of the Pittsburgh Penguins just take everything they have and put it all together to take one crack at the cup. Today is a very strange day in the capital city as they were looking to go happy into the sunset with Daniel Alfredsson after wonderful marriage with him with Daniel hinting wanting to head into the sunset a few times over the last few seasons but he would always come back. Then today Daniel woke up and looked over at the Senators and said I want a divorce because their is someone else and for him it the Detroit Red Wings and it stunned the Senators and their family and friends (their fans). It will be awkward when Daniel and his new girl comes over a lot next season as the Red Wings are coming East and will be in the same division and the price tag 5.5 million but it will never be the same again between the two of them and the Wings and Sens have as much of a chance to lift lord Stanley mug. What a weird day in Ontario Tom Mehegan
