Randall Mario Poffo best known as the Macho Man Randy Savade passed away (November 15, 1952 – May 20, 2011) while driving his Jeep Wrangler on a Florida highway as he crossed a medium and hit a tree. His brother Lanny Poffo has said that his brother had a heart attack and Macho Man died at age 58.
He was a minor league baseball player in the early 70's until he hurt his right arm and his baseball career ended with the Tampa Bay Tarpons in 1974 and he started his wrestling career in 1973 during the baseball off-season and his first Wrestling persona was The Spider Friend which was based on spider man and Ole Anderson later in Georgia Championship Wrestling suggested that Randy change his last name of his ring name from Poffo to Savage because he wrestled like a savage.
He was a Wrestler that most people will known him from his days in the than called WWF and later in the WCW after a bitter dispute with Vince Macmahon that had soiled his legacy in wrestling history as he had not been on WWE TV in over a decade and the WWE had not acknowledged him in over a decade until just recently when they put out a DVD on his career that he was not involved with so it had a lot of the WWE's spin to it and then his likeness was put into the new WWE video game "all-stars".
He most remembered through his on screen relationship with Miss Elizabeth when they entered the WWF at the time in 1985 as Miss Elizabeth was his valet and they were actually married December 30th, 1984 a half year before they enter the WWF in June of 1985 as a crazy heel who would abuse Elizabeth and threaten anyone who looked at her the wrong way. He won his first WWF by beating Tito Santana for the WWF Intercontinental title in early '86 and his most famous match ever and maybe the greatest match in North American wrestling history was with Ricky "the dragon" Steamboat @ Wrestlemania III that overshadowed the main event of Hulk Hogan beating Andrei the Giant @ the Pontiac Silverdome. In '87 he won the king of the ring tournament and then slowly turning baby face and teaming up with Hulk Hogan as the Mega Powers and it started with the Heart foundation interfered in an intercontinental title match with Champ the Honky Tonk Man and Elizabeth got Hogan to come out and save Macho. He won his first WWF World tittle @ Wrestlemania IV in the World tittle tournament when he defeated Ted Dibiase in the final and then Dibiase teamed up with Andrei the Giant as the Mega Bucks to face the Mega Powers at the original Summerslam where his than wife Miss Elizabeth took off her skirt to distract the Mega Bucks and the Mega Powers broke up on the last Saturday night main event for years in a primetime time slot when Elizabeth got hurt and Hogan carried her back to the locker room and then after the match they argued at Elizabeth bedside and lost his first world championship against Hogan @ Wrestlemania V which was a rein of 371 days. He then turned heel again and was managed by Sensational Sherri and they were called "Macho King" and "Queen" Sherri after Savage beat Hacksaw Jim Duggan in the 1989 King of the Ring and he was a world champion as King Macho. Macho Man's on screen relationship on and off screen with miss Elizabeth was finalized at Summerslam '91 when they married in an angle but by this time they had been apart in real life and Elizabeth filed for a real divorce in early '92. He became a Color commentator in 93 and 94 after receiving an almost career ending injury and would have a match once in a while until he signed with WCW and became a 4 time Heavyweight champion and becoming a NWO member and joining Hogan and his people again and had a madness team with Madusa and Miss Madness who would move to WWF later to become Molly Holly and Savages last tittle was won @ the Great American Bash '99 but lost it the next night on Nitro and then he ended his wrestling career with TNA and his final match was at the 2004 turn point PPV as he had a falling out with TNA management so after over winning the tittle against Jeff Jarrett.
It is sad that Randy Macho Man Savade and Vince McMahon could not patch up their relationship as every big time wrestlers who leaves the mica of wrestling the WWE they always come back and he never came back in his last 17 years of his life. I do not know if Vince will very allow him into the WWE hall of fame which should of been done years ago and I would like him to put his differences aside because whatever he did was off camera and has nothing to do with his wrestling career. The WWE has finally put together something in his honor on their website but were not able to put together something for the beginning of Smackdown as it was already set before the accident happened but they should do something for the beginning of the PPV on Sunday. In the end they really need to dedicate Monday night Raw to Macho Man and have some of the guys in the back like Ricky Steamboat, Arn Anderson, Dusty Rhoades, and Jim Ross to talk about Macho Man along with wrestlers breaking cavfav and talking about how he was a guy they watched when they were younger like a guy like CM Punk.
Savage won 2 WWE titles along with the intercontinental tittle and 4 WCW world tittles and he married Lynn Payne on May 10,2010 and she was beside him at the time of his death as she was in the car with him.
