Darryl Sittler had a magical night on February 7th, 1976 when he had a 10 point game and to set the record for most points in a game and it is a record that Wayne Gretzky was hoping he would break this record.
The start of the story happened the day and night before with first Harold Ballard had come out and said that Lanny McDonald and Errol Thompson needed a centre worthy of playing with them and these were the line mats of Sittler and he was on a 8 game pointless streak. The night before the game the Bruins took Dave Reece out for a night on the town and Dave Reece had too much fun as he was heading back to the AHL because Gary Cheevers had just come back from the WHA and was not ready to play yet and Gilles Gilbert had an knee injury and was not able to play.
Dave Reece gave up all 11 goals in a 11-4 loss to Toronto Maple Leafs and Darryl Sittler had 2 assists in the first period and ended up with 6 goals and 4 assists in the game and the goals in the game of 6 has only been matched by Red Berenson since the original expansion happened in 1967. Also his 10 points in the game was more than his 9 points in 20 playoff games going into the 1976 playoffs and to end it Cheevers played the next night and the Bruins smocked the dead things 7-0 in Detroit.
For all the Leafs fans out there let's hope that Phil Kassel has a game like this to break his point silence
