The background of the Kevin Lowe and Brain Burke feud

The background of the Kevin Lowe and Brain Burke feud

The whole thing started back in 2005-06 coming out of the lockout and entering the salary cap era and shocker was Chris Pronger signing almost a max salary with the Edmonton Oilers and went into the playoffs as the 8th seed and went all the way to the Stanley Cup Final and lost to the Carolina Hurricanes. In the off-season things hit the fan as Chris Pronger demanded a trade out of Edmonton and this is when Brain Burke came to Kevin Lowe's door and basically said I will take this media disaster off your hands and gave the Oilers Joffrey Lupul and Ladislav Šmíd along with 2 first round draft picks and a second that none have turned out to work out for the Oilers. Then Kevin Lowe decided to get even with Brain Burke and signed Dustin Penner when he was a restricted free agent to an offer sheet which Burke decided to take the package of picks but he was not happy about how it went down as Burke said he found out about the offer sheet through the media because Lowe did not phone him and tell him about the offer sheet. This started the fireworks of Lowe and Burke going through the media and it kept going until Kevin Lowe was released by the Oilers and the Chris Pronger trade worked out for the Ducks as they won the Stanley Cup in the 06-07 season and then the Dustin Penner offer sheet of 5 years and 21.25 mil and has good goal and point production. For the money he is getting he should be putting up better numbers than 23 goals and 47 points in his first season and 32 goals and 63 points in his third season with the Oilers.

Burke talks trades too much in the media
