Butler Vs Pittsburgh
Butler came out of the gate with the idea win by the 3-ball or lose by the 3-ball so to start the game they throw up a lot of 3-balls and most of them hit and gave them a 30-18 lead and had made 6 3-balls with 5:32 left in the first half and had to hold on to lead 38-30 @ half as they hit another 3-ball to end the half. A couple of minutes into the second half Pittsburgh got 9 straight points to tie the game @ 41 and then it was a back and forth battle to the end of the game and it all went crazy starting with pitt up 69-68 and not getting a shot off and turning over the ball because of a time count violation which gave the ball to Butler with 7 seconds left and Andrew Smith slipped through the paint with ease to give Butler a 70-69 lead with 1.9 second left. You would think that it is impossible for Pitt to get the ball down the floor and get a shot off in 1.9 seconds but the ball was thrown down the court where Gilbert Brown caught it and throw it up it did not go in but he was fouled by Shelvin Mack and got 2 shots and he made the first one to tie it up @ 70 and then missed the second one. So you would think we are going to overtime but wait Matt Howard got the rebound and he was fouled (why any Pitt player went after the ball I do not know but Nasir Robinson did) and he hit the first to take the lead and missed the second to end the game. Butler was led by Shelvin Mack (so he did deserve a mistake) as he had 30 points, 3 assists, 2 boards, and a steal while Matt Howard had 16 points, 6 boards along with an assist and block and Pittsburgh were led Gilbert Brown had 24 points, 4 boards, and 3 assists along with Nasir Robinson had 16 points, 2 boards, and a massive foul while Brad Wanamaker had 7 assists and 7 boards in the game.
Kansas State Vs Wisconsin
So Jacob Pullen of K-State is fouled from 3 point land and he is shooting so he get not 1 shot, not 2 shots, but 3 shots and K-State is 3 points down @ 66-63 with 10 seconds left in the second half so he makes the first so K-State is now down by 2 and he misses the second shot so still down 2 may want to miss the third so they can get the rebound and tie the game but he makes the third. So now down 1 so Wisconsin's Jordan Taylor is fouled goes to the line and makes both free throws to make it a 3 point lead again so K-State sets up a plan to get the game tying 3 ball so it ends up in Jacob Pullen's hand's again so he shoots it and it gets immediately blocked not a tip of the ball but the whole thing so Wisconsin after a couple of made free throws walk off the court with a 70-65 win and move on to the sweet-sixteen. Wisconsin was lead by Jon Leuer with 19 points and 7 boards (4 offensive) while Jordan Taylor had 12 points, 6 assists, and 4 boards along with Josh Gasser (7 boards and 2 steals) and Mike Bruesewitz (6 boards) who both had 11 points. K-State was led by Jacob Pullen who had 38 points with 6 for 8 from the line (real bad timing) and 6 for 8 from 3 (just did not set-up perfectly on his last) to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists so a great game but no support as Chris Kelly was next with 11 points was next in scoring but he did have 9 boards in the game.
Cincinnati Vs Connecticut
Cincinnati got in front quickly with a 17-9 but Connecticut said we have done this too many times as they closed out the first half of a 27-11 run to lead 36-28 and Cincinnati came out hot early again with the first 6 points of the half to make it 36-34 and then they traded buckets for a while till it was 53-50 Connecticut and then they went on a 6-2 run to open a 9 point lead and it was finally over as the more experienced program in Connecticut won 67-58. They were led by Kemba Walker who had 33 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists while Alex Oriakhi had 10 boards to help the cause while Cincinnati had Rashad Bishop with 20 points and Yancy Gates who had 11 points along with 7 boards.
Morehead State Vs Richmond
This Cinderella ball started with the front court of Richmond going to work down low as they out scored Morehead State bigs 17-6 in the first half and took a sizable lead of 9 @ 30-21 led by Justin Harper who had 9 points and 2 boards while Dan Geriot had 6 points and 4 boards and Morehead State was led by Ty Proffitt and Kenneth Faried (5 boards) both had 6 points while Demonte Harper had 7 boards in the first half. Richmond got a little scar when Sam Goodman of Morehead State was hyped up and had just 2 free throws to make it 45-39 but 6 straight points by Richmond gave them a 12 point lead and they danced all the way into the sweet-sixteen as they won 65-48. The Richmond Spiders were led by Justin Harper with 19 points, 6 boards, and 2 assists while Kevin Anderson had 14 points, 4 assists, and 3 boards and Dan Geriot with 13 points and 7 boards. The Morehead State Eagles were lead by Kenneth Faried with 11 points and 13 boards (7 offensive) along with Sam Goodman with 11 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists while Demonte Harper had a 11 boards (2 offensive) and 4 assists to go with his 4 points.
Temple Vs San Diego State
San Diego after Temple's Lavoy Allen hit 2 free throws to take a 16-14 lead went on a 20-7 run to open up a 11 point lead @ 34-23 but Temple ended up getting the last 6 points in the half to make it a 5 point game @ 36-31. San Diego State were led by D.J. Gay with 9 points, 2 assists, and 3 boards, and Malcolm Thomas with 8 points and 3 boards while Temple was lead by Ramone Moore who had 10 points and Lavoy Allen who had 8 points and 6 boards in the first half. The Second half was wild which hit the fan just after Chase Tapley hit his second 3-ball in as many San Diego State possessions to give them a 50-43 lead but then they went as cold as ice in the last 10:14 of the game as they made only 2 buckets and only one in the last 7:11 of regulation. Temple just chipped away at the 7 point lead and when Lavoy Allen makes a jumper with 48 seconds left the game was tied at 54 but when San Diego State gets an offensive rebound with 25 seconds left they have last shot so with the clock whining down Chase Tapley with the ball in his hand drives towards the basket and slips and misses the shot. Then we are going to overtime and with the game tied at 61 Billy White gets a defensive rebound for San Diego State and had last shot again this time with 33 seconds on the clock so this time it is Malcolm Thomas with the ball as the clock whines down again and he takes a 13 foot jumpers that does not fall. So we are going to double overtime when Billy White gets a tip in to put San Diego State up 4 @ 65-61 with 2:43 left gave them the lead they needed to win the game 71-64 as Temple fought extremely hard to stay with San Diego State. San Diego State was led by Billy White (13 boards) and Kawhi Leonard (9 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals) who both had 16 points while Malcolm Thomas had 13 points, 4 blocks, 9 boards, and 3 assists. Temple was led by Ramone Moore who had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists while Khalif Wyatt (2 boards, 4 boards, and 2 steals) and Juan Fernandez who had 14 points each along with Rahlir Jefferson who had 12 boards in the game.
Gonzaga Vs BYU
the Gonzaga bubble burst in the second half as they completely collapsed and lost by 22 points with the final score being 89-67 with BYU getting a 11-2 run @ the beginning of the second have to take their 7 point halftime lead into a 16 point lead and Gonzaga did try one comeback as they made a 11-4 run to make it 61-51 but BYU ended the game with a 28-16 run. BYU run in the madness was led by Jimmer Fredette who had 34 points, 6 assists, and 2 boards while Jackson Emery had 16 points, 3 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Gonzaga run end but Elias Harris (8 boards) and Steven Gray (7 assists and 3 boards) had 18 points while Robert Sacre had 17 points, 7 boards, and 4 blocks.
UCLA Vs Florida
It was a real tough battle where nobody got more than a 4 point lead in the first half where Florida had a 35-33 lead going into the second half but UCLA was all over the glass with a 20-11 advantage in the half and their offense with a # of offensive boards leading to second chance points. In then second half Florida and rebounded UCLA 21-17 in the second half but a huge block from Tyler Honeycutt had a Florida lay-up bouncing the ball off the glass to block the shot and then later Joshua Smith had his shot blocked by Erik Murphy who then goes down on offense and hits a 3-ball to give Florida the first 6 point lead of the game at 61-55. UCLA was never able to get it back to even after these huge plays by Erik Murphy and Florida ended up winning 73-65 as Florida scored the last 7 points of the game and a 3-ball from Erving Walker on a second chance possession made it 69-65. Florida was led by Erving Walker who had 21 points, Alex Tyus had 13 boards to with his 8 points, and Kenny Boynton had 12 points and 5 assists while UCLA was led by Joshua Smith (6 boards with 5 offensive) and Reeves Nelson (11 boards with 3 offensive) who both had 16 points, and Tyler Honeycutt who had 4 blocked shots in the game.
West Virgina Vs Kentucky
It was a game of runs starting @ 12-12 when Wildcats went on a 14-7 run to get out ahead the Mountaineers but the Mountaineers went on a 22-7 run to end the half including the last 8 points of the first half to take a 41-33 halftime lead. The Mountaineers were led by Joe Mazzulla with 16 points and 4 assists while the Wildcats were lead by Brandon Knight 15 points and an assist in the first half.
To start the second half the Wildcats flexed their muscle and as they scored the first 11 points of the second to take a 44-41 lead and the mountaineers could not make a shot as it took more than 6 minutes to score their first points of the second half. When the Mountaineers found their shoot with went on a 14-7 run open a 4 point lead @ 55-51 but the Wildcats muscle was too much for them as they kept the ball alive on the offensive end with rebounds and ended the Mountaineers on defense with rebounds as they scored 9 straight points to open a 5 point lead @ 60-55. Then while the Mountaineers were struggling with their shot still it was time for the Wildcats to show their free throw skill as they closed out the game 71-63 and the Wildcats where led by Brandon Knight who had another 15 points in the second half with another assist and ended with 30 points, 3 boards, and 4 assists while Terrence Jones had 10 boards along with Josh Harrellson who had 15 points and 8 boards in the game.
