The Owners and the Players of the NFL have missed the point of playing football as Owners like Jerry Jones Dan Snyder who want a bigger piece of the pie because they can make bigger profits on their own in the markets they have their teams in as they also do not want to prop up teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills. Don't get me wrong all teams make money as the TV revenue equals the salary cap so that the revenue from the ticket sales is only used to pay the player bonuses which means that everybody is in the black even with the Jaguars having 35,000 to 40,000 fans in the stands. The Owners also want to add 2 games to the regular season and take 2 games away from the pre-season schedule as nobody shows up for pre-season games and the teams do not play their stars usually in the pre-season and if they add the games to the regular season it will give teams a bigger payday with another home regular season game.
The Players are looking for more money and in the end the only players with the huge paydays are 10-15 players on each team who are making the majority of the team's salary caps where the rest of the team makes 2 million or less and a lot of the players make the league minimum salary which is just 310,000 which is a huge payday for the average Joe. This piles in compare with the idea of a guy like Tom Brady making 18 million average along with Payton Manning who will be getting a contract where he will average over 20 million a season when he signs his new deal after the battle over the new CBA is finished. IF the Owners get their way and get the extra regular season game the Players want to have the extra 2 games to be prorated into their contracts and have the team's number of players to be larger than it has been.
But the real issue is that the coaching staff of the KC Chiefs are going to cut their coaching staff pay by 10 % and the head coach and GM will take a 20 % cut while the New York Jets are going to cut their staff salaries by 25 % and if it lasts 90 days they may have to take a 50 % pay cut. I have also heard that the team reps and sales people have been told that they may have to take a week on and a week off without pay situation along with if you feel sorry for the players just remember that their are a number of former players that are like on welfare or on the streets and even hall of famers are in this possession. So the only thing that could save face for either the Players or Owners would be to give their salary for like a year to a group of former players and I mean like the top stars who are making like around 8 million and higher and the Owners could keep paying their staff their full pay throughout the labor issues.
So I hope that the Players and Owners remember who will get hurt during a labor issue and make sure that they take care of the little people so that they do not suffer when they diffidently do not need to.
Do the Right Thing
