Grey Cup 101 - Saskatchewan Roughriders win fourth Grey Cup
The 101 Grey Cup for the most part was no contest as the Saskatchewan Roughriders behind their 3D offense but a whooping on the Hamilton Ti-Cats to the tune of 45-23. First it is all about the running game that was controlled by Corey Sheets who put up 128 yards on the ground including a heads up 39 yard run after he catch a ball on the fly when Darian Durant coughed it after being hit and by the end of the game he had set a Grey Cup record with 197 yards on the ground on 20 carries. The second is the pass game lead by Darian Durant who went 17 of 24 for 245 yards and 3 TDs to put up 8 TDs in the 2013 while not given up an interception and it was Geroy Simon who catch his first 2 Grey Cup TDs (in his third appearance) and Chris Getzlaf was named Canadian MVP with 3 catches for 78 yards. The third is the kickoff team that stuff every attempt by the Cats on punts who got a 26-yard return by Brandon Banks but only had 7 yards on his other and kickoffs he got 37 yard return but only averaged 20 yards on his other 6 returns which put the D in position to put HENRY under pressure to hold him to 273 43 pass attempts (completing 20) and he had the only run that mattered a 18 yard TD run that made it closer at 31-13.
The turning was a fourth quarter punt by Ricky Schmitt that gave the Roughrider a second life up 31-16 when Luke Tasker (who's father Steve was in four Super bowls with the Bills) fell into Schmitt for a roughing the kicker penalty that the Roughriders turned into a four-yard TD run by Corey Sheets. It was setup by a Durant 30-yard pass to the Roughriders leading receiver Weston Dressler (81 yards on 5 catches) to start the celebration up 38-16 with 5 minutes left. Weston finished off the scoring hooking up in the back of the end zone with 26-yard TD throw from Durant.
I know it has been 15 seasons for homeless Ti-Cats (they get their home back next season) but if a team or fan base a second Championship in the last 7 seasons it would be the Saskatchewan Roughriders who have travelled to the Grey Cups no matter if the Riders are in it and make it event. Also have a third Grey Cup hold in Regina is amazing and they put on a great party for the country and what better to win by put that snub Kent Austin just put out his hands up in frustration when he could not find Corey Champlain after the game and after a 45-minute post game the announcers were like nothing from the Ti-cats yet.
Saskatchewan on holidays for a while
