Miguel Cabrera wins first triple crown in 45 years
Miguel Cabrera has really turned it around after a lot of alcohol problem with him being arrested for being dunk and a fight with his wife and was put into jail and the GM of the Tiger Dave Dombrowski bailed him out and he was taken to the ballpark for the final game of the 2009. He also pulled over during the grape fruit league in Florida was pulled over by police and was charged with a DUI and a bottle of alcohol.
His 2012 season was one best over season in quite a few seasons as he became the first batter in the majors in the past 45 years to have the best hitting average (.330), the most RBIs (139), and homers (44) to claim the first triple crown and was not tied at the end of the season in a category. Ever the great Carl Yastrzemski did not even do when he won the triple crown in '67 as he was tied in homers with Harmon Killebrew with 44.
The number break down is insane as batting average was .330 and Mike Trout was next with an average of .326 and he went 6 for 9 in the first two games of the final series with the KC Royals.
Homers he had one more than Josh Hamilton had two in the last 5 games of the regular season the first to tie Hamilton with 43 and the second to past Hamilton with 44 long balls.
He crushed everyone in RBIs as he had 11 more RBIs than Hamilton and just ran away with RBI title and he did all this on a bad wheel.
So yes he had Prince Fielder behind him which allowed him to see more fast balls than he would otherwise see as pitchers did not want to have him on with Fielder up but he also had trade in his first baseman mit for a third baseman mit as he switched corners of the infield and he still able to not cost the Tigers games with his fielding.
In the end Miguel Cabrera deserves the MVP as it is something that has not been done in 45 years and on top of his triple crown # he also cracked 40 doubles and fell short of 100 ks which is hard for power hitters (98)
