What is A.J. Burnett thinking

So earlier this week A.J. refused a trade to the California Angels of Anaheim who will be in the heat of a playoff race every game against the Texas Rangers with Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson in his corner not to mention Ervin Santana and Jared Wavier and instead going to the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking for their first winning season since 1992.

It looks like A.J. Burnett who is a 50/50 pitcher and has a career record of 121-111 thankful one great season with the Blue Jays as he went 18-11 and it was good for the Blue Jays as opted out of his final two seasons of his Blue Jays contract to get a bigger contract with the Yankees is getting ready for retirement and a quiet baseball town like Pittsburgh will not have any national media attention compared to the Angels where every game he pitches will be under a microscope. So A.J. Burnett can go to the Pirates and finish his career with a 18-18 record in his final two season and take all that money from the Yankees and Blue Jays and run into the sunset or he could have a mystery injury and his career could end sometime this next season but it is very unlikely he puts everything together and is unstoppable and gets another massive contract from someone.

In the end it is a great deal for the Yankees as they got two prospects from the Pirates in right-handed reliever Diego Moreno and outfielder Exicardo Cayones and yes they are paying 18.1 million dollars of the remainder of A.J.'s contract but it will be addition from subtraction as he has been known as a not very clubhouse guy going back all the way back to his time with Marlins when he was sent home before he became a FA the first time. While the Pirates will be paying him 13 over the next two seasons and hoping he brings the fans out to see him pitch and praying that he can still put it altogether and help them win more than loss and maybe get into a playoff race with the likes of the Reds.

Have fun with all your money A.J.
