Regularly the NBA all-star game is simply a smooth fest for the NBA and their financial partners and it also allows fans to vote their player into the all-star game and it gives players who are not at the all-star game to kick it and recharge the batteries for the charge to the playoffs so it is a nice way to give back to the fans and it is the right thing to do.
Except for the 2012 all-star game which is planted in the middle of a 66 games in 4 month and in total 124 days from the beginning of the season (December 25) and the final day of the regular season (April 26) so the four days off between Friday February 24 and Tuesday February 28 which of been better used to spread out the regular season so that there would be less 3 games in 3 nights or 5 games in a week. This would put less wear and tar on the players so that players like Derek Rose of the Chicago Bulls missing 10 of the Bulls 35 games before the Break and a guy like Dwayne Wade missing 9 of the 34 games or Carmelo Anthony missing 10 of the Knicks first 35 games of the season or Andrea Bargnani playing only 13 of the Raptors 33 games this season or a player like Joe Johnson being taken out of the Atlanta Hanks lineup.
It would not be surprising with the lack of non-playing days that a young star could have their future in the NBA be cut down at the knees with a serious career ending injury because of playing so many games in such a short window or maybe it could be a NBA poster boy who the league markets having their career because of this season.
All this does not mean that the all-star game gets cancelled but instead gets moved to the end of the season and have it be one of the days off between finals games and yes it would mean that players playing could not be apart of it but a lot of stars would take a two day break from relaxing on a beach to head to Walt Disney World to be apart of the pickup game known as the All-star game and the ratings would not be worst than the all-star game tonight will do and maybe even better.
