Jays success spelled goodbye for Burke
Jays under Alex Anthopoulos have done a lot by being very very quiet and when u here a rumor about the jays making a trade it just does not happen. So when he out of the blue signs Melky Cabrera to a two year deal or makes the quietest 12 player trade probably in the history of sports and then at the last second steps in to trade for R.A. Dickey.
So then when u look at Brian Burke reign as Leafs GM it is the yapping dog that just yaps and yaps but in the end nothing happens. It started with a big bang trading for Phil Kessel and it has been a solid player for the most part but it all went down hill first it was a first line centre and lets say that they are still looking for one. Then there is the whole Tomas Kaberle thing where he talked about how teams were burning up his phones and he was so confidence that he signed Michael Komisarek as a free agent to replace his 4.5 cap hit and then the Kaberle thing continued through another off season and then he was finally traded to Boston at which time Kaberle told him to stop talking about him in the media. The ultimate thing was his talk through the end of 2009 that in the 2010 off season the Leafs have a lot of money for free agency and then at the end of January of 2010 Leafs fans woke up and found Dion Phaneuf in a leaf jersey and practically no cap space for the offseason which has not been a good use of so much cap space. Then there is the whole No. 1 goalie situation as nobody has stepped up and become that no. 1 goalie backstopping the Leafs to the playoffs while Bryan Murray went out for the Ottawa Senator traded first for Craig Anderson and gave up Brain Elliot who ended up failing in Colorado and then turned into an all-star in St. Louis and J.S. Giguère turned into a solid back-up in Colorado the next year after being the Leafs goalie and not get the job done. Then Murray when Anderson cut his finger at home and could not play he immediately traded with St. Louis for another goalie Ben Bishop to fold the fort and help the sens make the playoffs and wait for Anderson to get healthy.
Then there was all his yapping about not making deals much earlier before the christmas break which is cool but then yapping about nobody wanting to trade with him but if he looking always for Chris pronger for handful of chicken feed as the only trade he wanted to make. He also felt like he should move up his trade deadline because the prices for players at the real trade deadline or not wanting to dive into the free agency pool because the free agent prices were too high for his liken.
In the end not getting Bobby Lou from the Canucks to be the solid regular season goalie and put the Leafs into position to make the playoffs and he decided hat he did not want to give up the teams prospects which is stupid because the T.O. market is not for prospects as the media and fans build payers and then they get good it all comes crumbing down and they are sent out of town prematurely like Luke Schenn.
If he did not talk so much and quietly made some trades that were franchise building then Burke would still be the Leafs GM
