Calgary and their horse invade Toronto
So like most cities in Canada who have a team playing in the Grey Cup (CFL Holy grail) Calgary has shutdown for a five day week and a lot of them have made the trip to the Grey Cup city which is year is in Toronto for the 100Th cerebration of said cup. The folks of Calgary made some news locally in Toronto when they decided to bring a long a horse and to recreate the story of their first Grey Cup appearance in 1948 which took place in Toronto and just like that time they will also be playing the Argos from Toronto. So the story goes that in 1948 they arrived in Toronto on and got on the subway that took them to Royal York Station which happens to be under the Royal York Hotel and when the Subway car stopped at Royal York the doors opened and out came a horse that was rode into the Royal York Hotel. Then with this story being played up locally that it got back to Calgary and someone asked the Royal York if they could bring in their horse and they said no so this morning a ton of cameras and news people were outside the Royal York because it looked like even though they had said no they were still going to try to do it and his rider Calgary Grey Cup committee Chairman Fletcher Armstrong was refused but later in the day with PR mess on their hands the Royal York rolled out the red carpet for him outside the hotel and got to sign the guest book. Marty also a busy day going to a shopping mall and a local pub and all this shows how awesome the rest of Canada with the exceptions of BC and Toronto of the CFL and the cup who would rather have a NFL team than a CFL team.
It is awesome to have Calgary in town and they are bring the party which would not bw happening if the BC Lions were in town or Toronto had to provide the excitement for the event and will be taken over Nathan Phillip Square for the Calgary Tradition of the pancake breakfast on Saturday Morning. Will be taken over the Metro Convention which has parties for every team in the CFL but just like the Saskatchewan Roughriders in '07 took over the Convention center and made a party of it and it sparkled so brightly that they decided right then and there that Toronto was the place to be for the huge 100TH Grey Cup. So Calgary will be running down town Toronto from Thursday to Monday and will be well represented at the Grey Cup on Sunday as the tickets that were sold were not sold to people in Toronto even though they got first crack at them they did not buy them as I'm guessing that maybe 15 thousand tickets were bought starting the day after last season's Grey Cup for 100 hours to celebrate the 100TH Grey Cup.
Calgary will be spending the dough for tickers and who does not get tickets will get be able to see the game at select movie theaters in Toronto which will be awesome but not as awesome as me who is going to the game because I bought a ticket a year ago.
Lets party and have a great four days of CFL fun
