Players do not understand the reality of the financial disaster that the NBA is in right now as the NHL has better audience numbers than the NBA has and a lot of teams play in half filled arenas and the majority of the owners in the NBA are better off not playing basketball at all under the past agreement. So if the players want to try and keep so of their benefits like guaranteed contracts and players still making 10 - 15 million dollars and maybe closer to 20 million a season. The reality is there is no way the owners will buckle and will want to make sure that they no longer have bench players making over 10 million dollars and if the players want to play this season every player will need to take a 20 to 25% pay cut off the top.
Right now there are 8 teams made a profit of 150 million and the other 22 teams lost a total of 450 million dollars which means that if the players do not give the owners a chance to make money than it will be a very cold winter for the NBA players who will be making little to nothing this season and really should be thankful for making a small piece of what they have been making over the last decade.
The idea of the players thinking about disbanding their union will only make things go from bad to worst because with no structure on the player side it will almost impossible and we are talking a month and a half before new years and if a deal is not done by then the season will almost completely lost because if the NBA wants to have a season they will need to be able to play at least a 40 game regular season. The players will also need to be better reps for the NBA because the more U hear about players running around with guns and getting themselves into trouble with the law it will be harder to get the fans back into the stands and the NBA is a gate driven league so if nobody goes to games then the teams loss money and if teams loss money then teams will fold which means less jobs for basketball players. If there are less opportunities to play basketball in North American will lead to even less money for the star players and the fringe player will never see the light of day so it is time for the players to learn the fairy tail life of the NBA is all over and need to come to grips that the owners have all the cards and nothing to lose so they need to get in bed with the owners to make the league financially viable for now and for the future.
The players have opportunity to save the season but the time is running out
